July 2 - Chambly to Sorel

The locks opened at 0830 and we were ready to lock through right away.  We still had about 6 locks to finish going through the Chambly canal, and we found that it would take at least a half day to complete this part of the trip.  However, it was another beautiful day and it was fine to see people having a good time in the town of Chambly.  The last lock consisted of 3 locks together and it gave a wonderful view as we descended back into the Richelieu River.  Once on the river, we made way for Sorel.  The first pic below shows a lock tender opening the lock doors.  The locks of Parks Canada are historic national parks and they are still operated at they did in the mid-1800's.  That means that they are operated manually, not motors or engines. The next pic shows us approahing Lock 4.   Then, we are starting the locks that descend into the Richelieu River.   Finally, a pic of the Jacques Cartier, a ferry that we followed on the river to Sorel.  The pic shows the ferry locking through the final lock on the river.  It was a tight fit for her, and we came in right behind her in the lock.
