July 5 St. Anne to Montebello

We were the first group of boats to lock through St. Anne in the morning.  The locks do not open until 0830hrs and we were ready to get underway.   Here we left the St Lawrence river and entered the Ottowa river.  The first pic below show the crew of BlueSkies in the St Anne lock getting ready for action.  The next pic shows the approach to the Carrillon lock, which is (I think) the largest lock we will negotiate on the trip.  It was massive- it seemed like about 90 feet high- the next pic is taken looking up the lock wall.  The next pic is taken after we rose to the top of the lock looking over the river where we just came from.  The next pic shows Lu using solar heating to heat up soup for lunch.  This was a long day on the water. We waited about 2 hours at Martha's cove to fuel up, but found the (mom and pop) folks who ran the fuel stop to be very neighborly.  Regardless, we arrive at Montebello in good spirts and found the hot tub and pool a welcome activity from a long day.

  1. When you stopped at Marthas Cove were you able to get diesel fuel? Did they bring a truck in? Was it reasonable? We used to spend lots of weekends there 20 years ago, beautiful little cove and very friendly people. Lawrence and Josee owned it then
