July 31 Starting the Georgian Bay

We were underway but had to wear our warm jackets because it was cool, around 50 degrees.  Just as we put on our jackets, we saw an older Canadian on a board enjoying the weather (see first pic). We got to Port Severn, Lock 45, which is the final lock of our Canadian waterway adventure.  So far, we have gone through 131 locks.   The second pic has me coming out of the lock station after getting instructions about what to do after the lock, because we are starting the Georgian bay of thirty thousand islands.   We paid close attention to navigation as soon as we entered the Georgian bay and arrived at our destination for a couple days – Beausoleil Island.  This is a Canadian national park and worthy of exploring.  The harbor was packed with boats because this is the weekend for labor day in Canada, and the last long weekend holiday for the Canadians in the summer.  We anchored and took a tour of the island with a Parks Canada guide. The pic below shows the guide, Shawn, and Christine during the tour.  In the evening, Shawn gave an excellent concert on the island, where he sang his original songs and accompanied with his guitar.   The boating excitement of the day happened as we returned from the tour in the afternoon.  I could not find the boat!   The anchor has dragged due to the heavy wakes from all the boaters and the boat was floating across the bay toward a large rock outcrop.  We got in the dinghy and reached the boat in time before any damage was done (as far as we know).
