August 1 Exploring Beausoleil Island

We put the bikes in the dinghy and went onshore for a combined bike/hike.  It took about 4 hours to explore the island.  The shoreline route had a lot of boats anchored out, usually small motorboats.  Several coves had government docks.  We found that it was typical to see covey of local Canadians at the dock with a band of generators to power their electrical needs while docking (first pic).  The next pic shows the typical anchor spots around the island.  Next is a pic of Fairy Lake, a pristine lake in the middle of the island.  It was formed by the body of Minniekewe, which is a first nation name for “the blueberry picking girl”.   That reminded us of our own blueberry picking girl, Becky Brookshire !    We ended our day with a dinghy ride to Honey Harbor.  We found many “no wake” zones, but none of the boaters ever paid attention to them.  Several times we were almost swamped.   That added to the excitement of the day.
